myFRESHtv + HHFF Alumni FAQ
For all Hip Hop Film Festival alumni (2016–2025)
Powered by Harlem Film House
1. What is myFRESHtv?
myFRESHtv is Harlem Film House’s non-profit streaming museum, built to preserve the architects of culture and elevate independent storytellers from the Hip Hop Film Festival.
The platform will feature curated films from all 10 years of HHFF, promote your work to distributors, and create a sustainable revenue stream for alumni.
2. Is myFRESHtv the same as the 247films.tv program?
It’s the evolution of it.
The earlier FRESHtv program was a private, white-label industry portal for HFH/HHFF screenings and pitching.
myFRESHtv is the next step: a full, subscriber-supported, public-facing platform that continues to honor those original terms, while still maintaining its reputation as a white-label industry portal.
3. Why is my film included?
When you submitted to the Hip Hop Film Festival on FilmFreeway, you agreed to the festival’s Terms & Conditions, which state:
-
Harlem Film House may use your film for promotional and commercial purposes connected to the festival
-
Participating films become part of the FRESHtv platform for the life of the season and festival cycle
-
FRESHtv is considered a non-exclusive, promotional showcase
-
Filmmakers may opt out only if placement conflicts with a proven distribution deal
myFRESHtv operates under those same non-exclusive terms.
4. How does revenue sharing work?
We believe in transparency and equity.
Here’s the current model:
FEATURE FILM REVENUE SHARING
-
50% of subscription revenue supports the platform and Sustainability Fund
-
50% is divided among all feature films streaming on myFRESHtv
VOD SINGLE SALES (Feature or Short)
-
50% to the creator
-
50% to the platform (supports tech costs, staff, and filmmaker programs)
5. What about short films?
Short films are included for exposure, discovery, and pitching to distributors.
They also receive 50/50 revenue split on individual VOD sales.
6. What is the Sustainability & Finishing Fund?
This fund is powered by subscription revenue and provides:
-
Finishing funds for documentaries and features
-
Short-to-feature expansion support (The BIGGIE SHORTY)
-
Production resources for alumni
This fund is exclusively for HHFF alumni.
7. How does myFRESHtv help me get a distribution deal?
As stated in the original terms:
“Participants selected for the FRESHtv program will be pitched to domestic and international studios and networks to secure a distribution deal for the project.”
myFRESHtv expands that pipeline by providing:
-
Verified subscriber analytics
-
Audience engagement data
-
Press and promotional features
-
Curated placement for distributors and buyers
-
Strategic pitching to partner companies
8. Is this a distribution deal?
No.
myFRESHtv is a non-exclusive festival extension and streaming museum. You retain all rights to your film.
9. Can I opt out of myFRESHtv?
Yes — only if you have a proven distribution deal that conflicts with streaming placement.
To request removal, email filmmaker@hiphopfilmfestival.org
Please allow up to 90 days for full removal.
10. How long will my film stay on the platform?
Films remain available for the duration of the festival’s annual cycle. Titles may be extended or removed at Harlem Film House’s discretion.
11. Why do you need alumni support now?
