About the event
🎥 Dive into the depths of Black Horror cinema and its profound social impact with us! 🖤 As part of the Mellon Public Humanities Social Justice Scholars Program, we're thrilled to unveil a year-long project titled: "Black Above Reality: Afrosurrealism in Contemporary Black Horror Cinema as a Vehicle for Advancing Racial Justice."
📝 This research delves into the fusion of Surrealist elements within Horror Noire, shedding light on concealed atrocities and terrors of the Black American experience. Films like Get Out and Candyman serve as powerful lenses to examine systemic issues plaguing Black communities.
🌟 Now, it's time to bring this exploration to life! In the spring semester, we'll be unveiling a captivating video installation that mirrors the themes of race relations in Black Horror cinema. But that's not all – following the screening, join us for an engaging panel discussion where we'll dissect the installation's message on racial injustice, generational trauma, and structural violence in America.
